Diamond Delights with Sally Spencer - Sunday 22nd September 2024

A fun session with Gemmologist Sally Spencer.

Join us for a fun 4 hour workshop where you will find out more about the most treasured and revered gemstone, perfect if you are contemplating buying a diamond, commissioning diamond jewellery or just interested in learning more about the most exclusive of stones with a fine artisan gin cocktail/mocktail in hand.

You will learn about:

• Diamonds and how they form
• The history of diamond cuts 
• Diamonds and light
  
• The 4 C's
• Natural diamonds and where they are found
• Synthetic, laboratory grown diamonds
• How to identify a colourless diamond from a colourless imposter!

There will be a little bit of science and a lot of sparkle! Including instruction on how to understand colour and how to identify diamonds from other stones and the cuts that you will commonly see.

You will have the opportunity to inspect a selection of diamonds & their imitators. There will be diamonds for sale and an opportunity to chat to our team about commissioning a piece of jewellery to include it.

Bring along your reading glasses/optivisor/loupe if you use them.  

A pen and paper may be useful in case you would like to take notes.

About the tutor

Gemmologist and jeweller Sally Spencer is the author of the Jewellers’ quick reference guide to working with gemstones, written specifically for jewellers to live on their bench and answer any “could I be about to destroy this” questions when working with gemstones.

A Fellow of the Gemmological Association of Great Britain and holder of both their Gemmology and Diamond diplomas, Sally now concentrates on sharing her gemstone knowledge and passion with fellow jewellers through her book, writing and classes to help them discover more about the gemstones they work with, aiming to help save them time and money while potentially improving the durability of their gem-set pieces and customer satisfaction.

The Venue.

Meet at The Emma White Jewellery Studio, 10 the Twisting, Sunny Bank Mills, before moving next door to Test Bar, Farsley's very own experimental gin cocktail bar and distillery, you will enjoy two modern immersive gin cocktails whilst Sally delivers a fun and informative talk on our favourite gemstones.

There will be diamonds for sale on the day, if you make a purchase on the day we will discount your full ticket price from the price of the diamond. 

You will also have the opportunity to book in a commission consultation with our in house Designer Goldsmith, Emma, for commissions in 2025.
