The Jewellery Makers jewellery school operates from the Emma White Jewellery Studio, a fully equipped workshop and teaching space that accommodates up to 16 learners. Located within the prestigious Sunny Bank Mills in Farsley—a charming village on the outskirts of vibrant Leeds—we are a small, dedicated team supporting contemporary jewellers through our online retail platform, thejewellerymakers.co.uk. Our teaching studio hosts a variety of classes and workshops during evenings and weekends. As we continue to grow, we are expanding our team and developing both the teaching and retail sides of the business.

Technical Support

This is an opportunity to work alongside experienced jewellery tutors supporting hobbyists in learning jewellery skills, with a focus on creating a safe, fun and welcoming environment. You will assist the lead tutor with a class of up to 16 learners.  

The person

This role would suit a people person, friendly, helpful and keen.  A recent graduate or someone with some bench experience, perhaps looking to work part time alongside their own practice.  Technical support hours would be 2 evenings per week, with the opportunity for more in the future.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supporting a lead tutor in teaching two evening classes per week 
  • Supporting students while they learn to make jewellery
  • Being an extra pair of hands and eyes while students solder, polish, drill etc to ensure their safety and the correct use of the equipment.
  • Assisting with ad-hoc tasks including, tidying the workshop, sweeping the bench skins etc.
  • Additional hours may be available to work on class preparation and workshop maintenance.
  • You may be asked, occasionally, to help with an event outside your usual working hours like a photo shoot, show, holiday cover or open day.


Skills and experience

  • Good basic knowledge of traditional jewellery making bench skills.
  • A jewellery degree or a similar level of skill & experience at the bench.
  • An eye for detail and a thirst to learn more and improve.
  • A neat and precise approach to working and organisation.
  • A positive attitude and ability to communicate well.
  • Teaching experience is not essential, but would be beneficial.
  • A positive, enthusiastic attitude with a ‘can do’ approach is essential.


The finer details

Initially a minimum of 5 hours a week on a Monday and Thursday evening on a freelance basis, with opportunity for more. Hourly rate £18 per hour.
